Overview
Reporting to the AVP, Financial Controller, this position will be responsible for a variety of aspects of the corporate accounting function, with a focus on public company financial reporting. The successful candidate will be a key member of the financial and corporate reporting team, who clearly understands reporting and disclosure issues of public companies, is able to plan and direct accounting activities, and provides timely financial and management information for strategic decision-making.
Responsibilities
- Manage corporate expenses, revenue, budgets, expense allocation, commodity tax filings and Statistics Canada Reporting
- Prepare and review monthly and quarterly consolidated financial statements
- Review monthly and quarterly various fee billing and collection
- Review monthly balance sheet reconciliation for corporate business units
- Participate in process improvement initiatives, including automation and development of junior staff
- Participate in appropriate cross-training for key tasks, reports and processes
- Participate in preparation of quarterly schedules
- Support the coordination of external auditor requests
- Undertake and oversee ad hoc projects as required
- Be a true financial and strategic contributor to the Trust by providing a proactive and responsible approach to the financial analysis and reporting function
- Other duties / projects as assigned
Qualifications Requirements
- University Degree in Finance or Accounting
- Canadian Chartered Professional Accountant designation (or equivalent)
- 5 years of public company industry experience
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Knowledge of current accounting practices and principles (IFRS)
- Excellent analytical skills
- Excellent interpersonal management skills, with the ability to effectively interactive with various levels of staff
- Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
